Aero's mum at her 73rd birthday lunch in Norg.

This picture was taken from the ferry to Schiermonnikoog, one of the 5 island north of the Netherlands. The sea (Waddenzee) is shallow and there is only one route the ferry can take to get to the island. You can see the waves the ferry makes going over the sandbank only a few feet away. When the tide is out, you can walk to the island.

Schiermonnikoog has one of the biggest beaches in the world. When the tide is out, it is about a 1,5 mile walk to the sea.

Cars are not allowed on the island (apart from the local courtesy bus and delivery vans). Coming off the ferry there is a bicycle rent shop with thousands of bikes. the island is made for cycling, as is the rest of the Netherlands.

Groningen, the most northern city of the Netherlands where Aero was born. It has canals like all major Dutch cities. The road opens to let the boats pass, cars can do nothing but wait.

Stationsplein. In the background the (in)famous museum.

Paard van Ome Loeks.

Oosterstraat, looking at the Martini Toren.

Goudkantoor, Groningen. The Goudkantoor (English: Gold Office) is a building built in 1635 and located on Waagststraat near the Grote Markt (Main Square) in Groningen, Netherlands. Originally it was built as an office for the receiver of taxes of the province of Groningen when it was called Collectehuis. It is now a restaurant.

The ferry in Dunkerque taking us back to Dover.

Clarkie and he white cliffs of Dover, or is it a scene from Titanic?

The day before we went back to England there was a fire in the Channel tunnel and 10,000 lorries were stranded on the M20 waiting for the tunnel to re-open.
